Freelance Illustrator/Concept Artist, Greensboro, North Carolina
Artist focusing on illustration and developing memorable environments and characters.
Hello, I'm Jessi! I was born in Japan but grew up on both coasts of the United States. My travels to Hong Kong and Thailand have influenced my work greatly especially architecture and culture. I earned my degree in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I am a creature of habit and this habit I carry is creation. Out of an internal necessity to share and depict a lingering sliver of time, I create illustrations using digital and traditional mediums to share these moments in which mood, color, a shift in focus, and a bit of mystery have become important in conveying these visions. Nostalgia is worked in from distant childhood memories and threads of the ethereal, love, dreams, fantasy, and fairy tales are woven in. My goal for my work is to capture a moment in time like a lucid dream- it seems real but something is different.
Themes of the otherworldly, nature, and fantasy are often captured in my work through the influence of my dreams and an adventurous childhood. Throughout my life, I have been a very active dreamer- sometimes having three to four dreams in one night but recently, I’m visited by nightmares everyday for the past five to six years but I have learned to live with it and even look forward to seeing what visions my subconscious has to offer me this time. I can’t help but to think these dreams have their weight in influence in the themes of my art. I hope to one day reach the ability to paint my visions as they have seemed in my mind. I hope to share with the viewer the beautiful, the scary, and the ugly- a lingering sliver of time in what may or may not have been.
